Project Quality Management

This topic teaches students and community leaders how to plan for and maintain high standards throughout their initiatives. Participants will learn the difference between Quality Assurance (managing the process) and Quality Control (checking the results). This ensures that the final deliverable is safe, functional, and professional.

Core Objectives:

  • Quality Planning: Identifying which standards are relevant to the project and determining how to satisfy them (e.g., “The community garden fence must be level and able to withstand 50mph winds”).
  • Quality Assurance (QA): The “process” side. Using audits and checklists to ensure the team is following the right steps while the work is happening.
  • Quality Control (QC): The “results” side. Monitoring specific project results to determine if they comply with the quality standards and identifying ways to eliminate causes of unsatisfactory performance.
  • The Cost of Quality (CoQ): Understanding the “Cost of Conformance” (training, testing) versus the “Cost of Non-conformance” (rework, waste, loss of community trust).
  • Attribute vs. Variable Sampling: A simple way to check work: Does it just “pass/fail” (attribute), or is it measured on a scale of “how well” (variable)?

Key Outcome: By the end of this topic, participants will be able to create a basic Quality Management Plan. They will have the tools to ensure their projects meet professional standards, reducing waste and ensuring that the school or community receives a result they can be proud of for years to come.
