Successful Communications

This topic teaches students and community leaders how to move beyond basic information sharing to Master Communication. Participants will learn how to identify barriers to understanding and how to adapt their style to ensure the project’s message is persuasive and professional.

Core Objectives:

  • The 5 C’s of Communication:
    • Correct Grammar/Spelling: Maintaining a professional image for the school or brand.
    • Concise: Respecting people’s time by removing “fluff.”
    • Clear: Using specific terms (e.g., “The gym” instead of “the room”).
    • Coherent: Ensuring the logic flows from one point to the next.
    • Controlled: Managing the flow of information so people aren’t overwhelmed.
  • Removing Communication Barriers: Identifying “noise”—such as technical jargon, cultural differences, or digital distractions—and learning how to bypass them.
  • Establishing Feedback Loops: Implementing “check-ins” where team members repeat back what they heard to ensure total alignment.
  • Emotional Intelligence (EQ): Learning to read the room. Knowing when a stakeholder is frustrated or confused even if they haven’t said it out loud.
  • The Power of Transparency: Understanding why being honest about “bad news” early (like a shipping delay) builds more trust than trying to hide it.

Key Outcome: By the end of this topic, participants will have a standard for what “good” looks like in their project interactions. They will be able to lead meetings and write updates that get results, ensuring their school or community project has the full support and understanding of everyone involved.
